Ideas for quilting esp. sashing or borders ~ When it comes to quilting, there are no rules on how many patterns you can have. In fact, you may start to feel like you are becoming a pattern hoarder when you stop to look over all the patterns you have collected for this rewarding pastime hobby.
An area that we can always use more ideas in is sashing and borders. If you are new to quilting, this is a pattern idea you will want to keep in your (soon-to-be expansive) collection.
I’ll start by explaining both sashing and borders. Sashing is when you sew plain or patchwork squares between your quilt blocks. This creates smaller borders between each quilt block. Sometimes people will also add cornerstones, but we will save that discussion for another day. Borders, well…borders are exactly what you think they are. This is the area that will go around the entire quilt.
Is everyone is up-to-speed on sashing and borders and the difference between each? Terminology is key in quilting. It helps you understand how to follow directions and gives you reference to learning new skills as you go. The only part left after terminology is honing your skills.
